Capetown, South Africa indie pop singer songwriter Anacy gets vulnerable with her new track Hot Mess.
By Graeme Smith
Life gets messy sometimes and so do we. Anacy knows this as well as the rest of us, and has immortalised the sentiment in song with her new track Hot Mess.
Born to perform, Anacy was named Anacy Rose Tainton by her parents, giving her the initials ART. She grew up dancing and singing, winning talent shows from an early age, before studying formally at Africa Film Drama Art (AFDA).
Musically, she’s inspired by the likes of Lorde, Lana Del Rey and London Grammar, and those influences come through in Hot Mess. A ponderous opening gives plenty of space to her expressive vocals and storytelling lyrics before the instrumental swells with rich electronica.
With her debut album currently being record, it feels a good time to be discovering the music of Anacy. Hot Mess is out now and you can give it a listen below.
