A post-indie band in the vein of The National or Arcade Fire, French Mothers are the latest act to hit my radar thanks to their new single, The TV’s Snowing.
By Graeme Smith
The TV’s Snowing is the kind of surreal, poetic track that you’d expect from the genre of post-indie, yet French Mothers give it their own unique twist. Drums lead the early charge, taking centre stage in an instrumental opening alongside echoing guitar and meandering bass. The vocals float in, stealing the show, as they deliver gripping, emotional lyrics about the cruelty of love. An almighty, cinematic finish then seals the deal.
The track was produced by Sam Bloor at Lower Lane Studios (who also produced Five O Fives’ Hypnotised that I featured last week). It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
