Brighton-based indie pop act Giant Killers return to our pages with a new single that celebrates hometown communities, Around The Blocks.
By Graeme Smith
Led by Jamie Wortley and Michael Brown, Giant Killers started their career in the heyday of Britpop, even opening for Blur during their Country House tour.
This is the third time they are appearing on these pages this year, following my review of their debut album Songs For The Small Places in February and Jane’s interview with them in June. The band have a way of always making you want to come back for more, delivering catchy and thoughtful indie pop. Songs For Small Places grabbed me with its combination of modern and ’90s throwback elements.
Around The Blocks is the second single from that album. It’s truly the total package – an anthemic instrumental, bright groove and clean vocals. They sing descriptive, storytelling lyrics that are full of nostalgia. A quickfire conclusion wraps things up nicely. If you haven’t heard the album yet, it’s going to make you want to.
The single is out now via Little Genius Recordings. You can give it a listen below.
