Toronto, Canada-based alternative pop artist Laila launches her next chapter with new single, TALK.
By Graeme Smith
We’re big fans of Laila’s work here at York Calling, sharing three of her singles last year. Her ability to capture emotional vulnerability in her lyrics is second to none in the pop world. We’re not the only ones who have been enraptured with her. CBC Radio and Toronto’s Pride Festival have taken note, and, as an actor, she’s shared the screen with Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall.
Her new single TALK is vibrant with storytelling during a simmering first verse before we arrive at a melancholic chorus which confronts the complexities of a “situationship” where one partner is more invested than the other. It’s a bright sign of what’s to come from Laila.
Co-written and produced with Matt Snell and Robbie Brett, the single is out now. You can give it a listen below.
