All The Nines put Hartlepool rock on the map with new EP

Hartlepool’s All The Nines invite us to their number with new three-track EP.

By Graeme Smith

Celebrated by Amazing Radio, the Northeast rockers have been making themselves heard both sides of the Atlantic through their first single The Yodeller. Its the track that rounds off their new EP, a three-track wonder that’s all killer and no filler.

As well as storming the airwaves, All The Nine’s have been lighting up the blogosphere with crits from You! Me! Dancing! and Lost In The Manor among others. Now we play host to the five-piece on our pages.

Having released their debut album in 2019, Andrew Oliver, Steven Hart, Tom Burke, Dan Athey, and Mark Folland make their home among the kind of experimental rock, edgy rock you’d associate with The Mars Volta and Fugazi, bringing their own flair to a genre that knows no bounds.

Their new EP starts in blistering fashion with Black Kettle which grabs the attention with its surreal, poetic lyrics. They pop up between off-kilter riffs, combining to create a discombobulating soundscape that gives you no choice but to throw yourself around. A stripped-back breather mid-track sets things up nicely for its unhinged crescendo.

Evil Dead calms things relatively with a ponderous, meandering effort that gives plenty of space to Steven’s vocals before plunging headfirst into a sinister chorus. The aforementioned The Yodeller closes the collection with a narrative-rich moment that pushes the comfort zone.

There’s quite a scene forming up the road in Hartlepool and its thanks to local champions of it that we’re getting to partake. All The Nines’ new EP is a heady delight with plenty to say despite its modest eleven minute runtime. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more of their music for sure.

EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band between The Studio in Hartlepool and their practice room. It’s out now via Shy Bairn Records and you can give it a listen below.
