Suburban Bicycle Gang give Stoppin’ Tom Connor’s track Bud The Spud a punk rock makeover.

Last year, I shared the Canadian rock duo’s album In The Cosmos, describing it as “ten tracks that don’t take themselves too seriously.” Bud The Spud was originally planned to be included on the album but had to be dropped due to a “licensing snag.” Now, we can hear it in all its glory as a single.

Originally a country song recorded by Stoppin’ Tom Connors, Suburban Bicycle Gang’s version honours those folky roots while bringing plenty of punk chaos. Characterful vocals tell the story of the titular hero and the instrumental is kept engagingly raw.
