Boston, USA-based indie pop rock musician, songwriter and producer Kerrin Connolly proves an exciting voice with new album, Transitions.
By Graeme Smith
Though this is the first time we are featuring Kerrin’s music in its own right, we have heard their voice before on this blog. In 2022, they guested on Nottingham’s Good Hustles’ EP, Apes, adding some texture to their track Waking Up In Your Clothes.
They are an artist with an exciting sound and an ever-growing fanbase which means their new album feels like a landmark. Transitions is seven tracks that set Kerrin out as one to watch on the DIY indie rock scene.
The album opens with Interim and we are at once exposed to their striking and emotional song writing. The lyrics instantly tug on the heartstrings, beautifully delivered by Kerrin’s vocals while a stripped-back yet rich instrumental creates the backdrop. It builds with quirky and edgy layers before arriving at an open-ended conclusion.
Fingertrap livens things with a jangly, swaggering moment before Talk Therapy ups the tempo further in moment that will have you throwing yourself around the room. Photogenic Memory sits at the heart of the album, giving us a smouldering, cantering and atmospheric highlight.
American Psomething provides a change of pace with a dreamy, reflective moment with plenty of poetic lyrics. Beige Ladies takes things in a psychedelic and laidback direction before bonus track With My Hands rounds off the album with a jaunty, folksy twist.
There are some huge tunes on Kerrin’s new album, and they bring the story and emotion of each of them to life with their charismatic delivery. They have to be up there with one of the most exciting independent voices out there in the world of modern rock. I can’t wait to see where they go with their career.
Transitions is out now and you can give it a listen below.
