Greek-Austrian indie artist Nefeli explores sex, drugs and rock and roll with new single and video, Purple Haze.
By Graeme Smith
If the title Purple Haze brings to mind the golden age of rock, then that’s very much intentional. Though the ’70s came and went decades before Nefeli was born, it’s from there that she’s drawn influence for her new single.
With it, we get a smouldering guitar riffs buffed with pop polish. Nefeli’s vocals shine thanks to their soulful and vulnerable delivery. An emotional, poetic chorus is the stand out. It truly is the perfect retro-modern rock ballad.
Born into a family of musicians, it was somewhat inevitable that Nefeli would take up the calling herself. With a love for Europe’s vibrant music scene, and the underground music of London from the ’60 to ’80s, she’s certainly bringing something new to the modern world of pop rock.
Purple Haze is out now and you can check out its video below.
