Discovery: D’Lee drops contemporary country collection

D’Lee announces herself with impressive debut EP, Wonder Woman.

By Graeme Smith

New to our blog, D’Lee is a country singer songwriter from Forth Worth, Texas, USA. She’s just come to my attention through her debut EP Wonder Woman.

The six-track EP draws on fairy tales and comic books to tell an important contemporary tale of love and self-expression. Musically, it draws inspiration from the likes of Dolly Parton, Wynona Judd and Prince.

The collection opens with the swaggering, relatable Kissing Frogs. It turns its attention to the old adage that one must “kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince” with D’Lee giving her own unique twist on the topic. Her passionate vocals are the highlight, and a catchy chorus means the EP starts in a captivating way.

Cinderella throws off the shackles with a powerful country pop anthem. It’ll have you dancing around the room and planning your next moment of self-care. Title track Wonder Woman then slows things down with a reflective ballad that looks back at the little girl that D’Lee once was.

Better Than Bitter ups the energy again with a defiant post-adversity anthem that brings plenty of rock edge. Chasing Dreams is swaying and empowering. Whispering Like a Yell closes the EP with a nuanced number that combines frustration with catharsis.

With her debut EP, D’Lee shows off her impressive country pop chops while giving us six distinct tracks that showcase her range. She has a voice to die for and an outlook that will life the lowest of spirits. If you need a pick-me-up today, then look no further than this EP.

Wonder Woman is out now and you can give it a listen below.
