The Assist drop Disconnections, the latest single from their upcoming second studio album.
By Graeme Smith
The Assist are a Birmingham-based band who have taken the stage at Reading & Leeds, TRANSMT, Y-Not and Isle of Wight festivals, as well as appearing on the airwaves of BBC Radio 6 and Radio X, and TV show Soccer AM. They first featured on our blog in 2022 with two singles from their debut album, Council Pop. In 2023, we followed that up with a review of the unplugged version of that same record.
Their new single Disconnections reflects modern life and “a never-ending demand for ‘bigger and better’,” as lead singer Mikey put its. The message is to put more gratitude into what’s truly rewarding. The track opens ethereally before an indie rock arrangement smashes the calm. Mikey’s passionate, pleading vocals are the centrepiece while the instrumental stays lively. A soaring chorus encourages the listener to singalong.
Disconnections will feature on their upcoming second studio album. It was produced by Ryan Malcs and is out now, available to buy on CD and vinyl. You can give it a listen below.
