Janita is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter originally from Finland and based in New York City, USA. After signing with Sony, she quickly found her true path was being an independent artist.
Despite her illustrious career, she’s only just hit our radar here at York Calling. I’m certainly glad that she has, and what better place to start than her latest single, Real Deal?
Inspired by the themes of rebellion in two of her favourite films, The 400 Blows and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, the track is from her upcoming tenth studio album, produced by Blake Morgan, Mad Equation. The title of the album refers to how others have tried to figure her out over the years, emphasising how we can all be more than one thing and those things are sometimes contradicting.
Real Deal is the perfect showcase for Janita’s unique style. It brings together elements of rock, pop and something more undefinable in the instrumental. All the while her powerful and expressive vocals hold the heart. An expansive chorus takes the emotion up a notch.
Mad Equation is set for release May 2025. Real Deal is out now and you can give it a listen below.
