For someone who doesn’t really like Christmas music, I sure feel like I’m sharing a lot of this year. It helps when so many artists are coming at the genre with a fresh take. The latest example is Pien.

The London-based Dutch indie artist transforms U2’s Song for Someone into a personal and reflective Christmas number in both a tribute to one of her father’s favourite bands and a tonic to the politics and polarisation of the modern world. Pien’s take gives the track an acoustic twist, giving plenty of space to her emotional voice and the track’s powerful lyrics. A Do They Know It’s Christmas-style choir ends things ecclesiastically.
