Lincolnshire’s KID SPIRIT bring us some classic rock and more with new live session EP, Salvation Music Studios (Live).
By Graeme Smith
Once part of the Brighton music scene, KID SPIRIT’s frontman Luke Parker has now relocated to his Lincolnshire home, reforming the band with a new line-up that includes Steve Heather on bass, Lewis Duckworth on guitar, and Matt Bell on drums. They’re new to our blog thanks to their EP, Salvation Music Studios (Live).
As the title suggests, the collection was recorded live at Salvation Music Studios which has recently hosted heavyweights like The Cure and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. With it, we get four tracks, including the band’s debut single, Fight The Feeling, alongside previously unreleased material.
It’s Fight The Feeling that gets things going, building slowly through an intro that blends cosmic keys with earthly alternative rock. We get emotion and bravado in equal measure during a powerful first verse before things become anthemic in the chorus. It’s classic rock at its finest.
The Great Divide is a simmering number reminiscent of The Killers’ slower numbers. Tiny Monsters strips things back for an emotional first verse before exploding into life for a standout chorus and a stunning crescendo. Julian’s Alone rounds off the collection in ambitious style with a slow-burning, storytelling effort that leaves it all out there.
KID SPIRIT have a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, combining the best of alternative pop rock with image-laden lyrics. Luke Parker has a voice for the ages and it simply shines in these live recordings. This EP is a must-listen.
Salvation Music Studios (Live) is out now on Spotify and YouTube. A physical CD is to come in the future. You can give it a listen below.
