Coming to our attention with his first album in 20 years, Steve Moss is an artist I’m looking forward to getting to know better.

A singer songwriter based in Albany, New York, USA, Steve’s new album explores the changes in his life since the release of his debut album two decades ago. Touching on topics such as love, fear, reflection, and determination, Another Go gives us ten track of rock and roll and introspection.

The album kicks off with the raw rock of No Fear. At once I was grabbed by its lyrics that speak of the contrast between youth and getting older. For all its introspection, there’s plenty of attention thrown to the wider world too, calling out global inaction on a planet burning.

Twice As Hard As Yesterday brings with it a classic rock and roll swagger, bringing to mind some of the Beatles’ earlier tracks. One Less Thing (I Have To Worry About) lightens the load with an airy effort. Lost Along The Way canters along fuzzily before Overgrown gives us an organic, acoustic moment.

The album’s second half gives us the gentle serenade My Darling, the explosive, confessional Gun Shy, the dreamy and psychedelic Silver Day, the punchy Parallel, and anthemic album closer Exhausted.

It takes a timeless sound such as Steve’s to be able to take two decades off and still be relevant. I’m so pleased that he’s back so that I can discover his music for the first time. I’ll be keeping a close eye out for more.
