I Am The Unicorn Head is one of the acts who have appeared most on these pages, going back to 2021. Their new track, Permanent Exit, draws inspiration from classic indie bands like The Smiths as well as the modern sound of Fontaines DC.

Of course, with it being the I Am The Unicorn Head, we get plenty of originality too, with flavours of oboe and trumpet in the mix of their new single.
About mixing creative aspirations with the demands of reality, the track has a wistfulness about it. Acoustic guitar is paired with gentle vocalisations in the intro before a pleading verse comes in. The poetic lyrics will grab you before things come nicely to a head during a raw and raucous chorus. The track builds before arriving at a lingering, thoughtful conclusion.
I’ve got so much time for I Am The Unicorn Head, and I’m certainly not their only fan. They’ve been trumpeted by DJ Deb Grant on BBC 6 Music, among others. With a sound as distinct yet familiar as theirs, it’s only a matter of time before they get further recognition.
Permanent Exit is out now on the usual streaming platforms, and you can check out its video below.
