Drawing inspiration from the infamous python character from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, Kaa is the latest single from Giessen, Germany’s nyxotype.
By Graeme Smith
Nyxotype has featured once before on our blog as part of Jane’s Female Voices round up in October 2024. Jane described her single Spider the Spellwork as “hypnotic.”
It’s a description that could aptly be applied to her new single Kaa, named for the snake with the hypnotic eyes from Kipling’s classic story. Opening with the captured sound of a river, we get snatches of ghostly vocals mixed in among hard-edged percussion. There’s a touch of witch house about the composition as nyxotype pushes the boundaries of music as far as they can go while staying accessible.
Kaa is out now and you can give it a listen below.
