Scott Clay previously featured on our blog in 2024 through his sixth studio album Jade which offered us a mix of ’60 funk, experimental folk, and Americana. Now, he’s venturing into electronica for the first time.
By Graeme Smith
His track Aurora originally featured on his 2022 album Let It All Lay Bare and was wrote in an evening in Vancouver, Canada. There are two remixes of the track on Scott’s new release Aurora – Remixed.
Jabrbeats and Vermillion give the track a lo-fi twist with plenty of fuzzy guitar and a hip-hop groove. It takes nothing away from Scott’s soulful vocals, or the track’s original meaning, inspired by Scott’s friend’s Britt Warner’s trip to Iceland to see the northern lights. The track comes complete with a video by cinematographer Spencer Johnson, filmed at the Mount Baker ski resort in Washington, USA.
Eliot Lipp goes lusher with the track, giving Scott a first foray into EDM and trip hop. You’d be surprised by Scott not having been involved in electronica before, the production is spot on. The mix simmers beautifully before finding a powerful high point three minutes in.
Both remixes give us a new slant on what was already a beautiful track. I certainly think Scott should dabble in electronica more often.
Aurora – Remixed is out now and you can give it a listen below.
