Discovery: Caroline in the Garden lands on our blog with unexpected cover

Ahead of her debut EP, set for release 23 January 2025, Caroline in the Garden debuts on our blog with a unique cover.

By Graeme Smith

Led by Atlanta, USA-based singer songwriter and producer Caroline Milby, formerly of the Philadelphia art rock band Weird Hot, Caroline in the Garden is an Avant Garde project influenced by David Bowie, David Byrne and ’90s piano stars like Tori Amos.

Amos notably covered Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit in her own inimitable fashion, and now Caroline is doing the same with another ’90s rebellious act. Her single sees her take on Hole’s 1994 hit Violet taken from their album Live Through This.

Opening with moody and contemplative piano, Caroline’s vocals quiver during a powerfully understated first verse. The emotion builds into the first chorus and then never lets up.

Violet is out now, available as a free download on Bandcamp. You can give it a listen below.
