Discovery: Vølve catches our attention with storytelling single

Real name Helen Navne, Vølve is a Denmark-based artist that’s new to our blog courtesy of her ghostly new single, Les Trois Amies.

By Graeme Smith

Inspired by “Norse mythology, feminine power, and the strength found in vulnerability” Vølve work with USA-based engineer James K. Ultra to bring her tracks to life through his mixing and mastering.

Their latest collaboration, Les Trois Amies, is about embracing differences and cherishing our vulnerabilities. There are, of course, three characters to its story – a mermaid longing for the sea, a sorceress who sleeps with a stuffed animal, and a fairy who dances while searching for love.

Sung in French, the track has a haunting feel about it, with an ethereal instrumental providing the backdrop to Vølve’s ghostly and expressive vocals. It’s a track that’s easy to get lost in.

Les Trois Amies is out now and you can give it a listen below.
