Based in Victoria, Canada, Kele Fleming previously appeared on our blog thanks to a team up with EDM producer Lost Signal for their track Vanishing of Bees Buzzwave.
By Graeme Smith
The track drew attention to the plight of bees in an increasingly hostile environment for them and Kele’s new single, Microdoses, has a similar message – encouraging the listener to take small actions to better themselves and the world around them.
Opening with a contemplative bass arrangement, folksy acoustic guitar quickly joins in before Kele’s unique vocals takes centre stage. Musically, it’s a beautiful track, but what stands out most is its lyrics. “We are microdosing the apocalypse,” she sings in an opening refrain. I was gripped.
As the track progresses, it arrives at stirring chorus before eventually building to a crescendo that unsettles and rouses to action in equal measure. It’s truly the icing on the cake of a powerful and incomparable song. The more I hear from Kele, the more I fall in love with her sound and message.
Thematically, Kele considers her upcoming album very much a sequel to her last and, based on the evidence of Microdoses, I have to agree. The track is out now and you can give it a listen below.
