It was over a year ago that Gumbo first featured on our blog. In January 2024, they delighted us with their bluesy EP, Winter Blues.

Now the band are back with something else to get our aural chops around. The Snack Pack is a collection of five tracks that show us a different side of their sound.

It starts with Am I Dreamin’? and we are introduced to a track that combines dreamy pop rock with a reggae undercurrent. Soulful vocals shine in the chorus as they deliver philosophical lyrics. A punchy rapped verse follows, showing the diversity of the Gumbo sound.

Save Me ups the tempo and the angst during a hard rock number. World Is Goin’ Crazy then throws off that angst with a lively musical shake of the head. Blood Burnin’ brings with it rumbling bass and big riffs. Good Vibration closes the collection in laidback style. Its bouncing beat provides the perfect basis for its bright message and soaring chorus.

Gumbo are a band who let their music do the talking for them. With their new EP they combine feelgood rock with some powerful lyrical messages, all delivered with soul and relatability. They’re the rock band you didn’t know you needed in your life.
