From The Father Tree is the debut EP from Dorset-based folk, pop and rock singer-songwriter Baz Edmondson.
By Graeme Smith
Right from the delicate opening bars of EP opener Ladybird Red, you’re in for a treat with Baz’s new EP. He has quite a voice – unique and expressive – and pairs it nicely with some stripped-back yet cinematic instrumentals across the record’s five tracks.
He’s also quite the storyteller, painting pictures in the mind with his image-rich lyrics. In his new EP, he touches on topics such as life, loss and love, rendering them in light and dark shades. Shepherd’s Lullaby is a gentle ode to parenthood while Wills Fallow speaks of love and depression in vivid detail. Nestled between the two are the stirring instrumental narrative of Shipwright’s Dandelion and the rousing nautical epic, Fair Winds & Calm Seas.
The range of moods and styles across Baz’s debut EP makes it a compelling listen. He emotes beautifully with his voice and creates some atmospheric folk instrumentals. If you’re a fan of classic songwriters like James Taylor, Eva Cassidy and Damien Rice, then you’re going to find a lot to love about Baz Edmondson.
From The Father Tree is set for release 24 February 2025.
