AUGY is an American act who has appeared on our blog once before. In 2022, Jane shared his team-up with Noshows, Danger.

Jane was impressed with Danger, calling it ‘catchy,’ ‘distinctive’ and ‘toe-tapping,’ but how does AUGY’s sound hold up on its own?
His latest album, INSOMNIA, is an extensive collection of pop, hip-hop and indie rock. It opens intimately through a brooding INTRO before launching into the funky guitar plucking of OH MY. AUGY has a laidback vocal style that proves beautifully infectious, while his stories of love and heartache will certainly feel relatable.
Title track INSOMNIA proves an early highlight in the first half of the album which leans towards an alternative pop sound. Its marching beat goes hard while the vocals are devastatingly understated during an introspective tale. A singalong chorus with stick with you.
The album’s second half goes more soulful, typified by LEAN ON U which smoulders beautifully, introducing gospel vocals and a groovy lo-fi beat. It’s another highlight.
Other highlights include the bluesy GRAY, the cantering folk pop of DON’T CALL ME, the punchy I MISS THE WAY I THOUGHT U WERE, the hip-hop infused WHERE U BEEN, and the dynamic HOME. Even the aforementioned Noshows put in an appearance on the vibrant SOMETIMES which also features Quail.
So, how does AUGY’s sound hold up? Very well. His album is voice of a generation-type stuff, unafraid to tear up the genre playbook and to get to the heart of true expression.
INSOMNIA is out now and you can give it a listen below.
