A funk and nu-disco duo from Sweden, The Odd Lot are new to our blog through their cutting new four-track EP, Stereo-Types.
By Graeme Smith
Stereo-Types offers pulsating, disco-infused pop introduced by the funky bassline and soaring vocals of Know-it-all. The brightness hides the fire of the lyrics which calls out those who think a little too highly of themselves.
The run through theme of the EP are those who are living stereotypes, particularly negatives ones that you might find on social media, in real life, or in pop culture. Alongside “know-it-alls,” “douchebags,” “drama queens,” and “mood killers” are in the crosshairs. They’re all knocked down a peg through biting and catchy dance pop full of funk and attitude.
Drama Queen is suitably dramatic, theatrical in its presentation thanks to breathy vocals and plenty of brass. Mood Killer rounds off the EP with ironic bounciness.
The EP is the work of Simon Fredenwall and Eve Jones, the two halves of The Odd Lot. Both are recording artists in their own right and joined forces under The Odd Lot banner in 2023 after signing with Rexius Records.
I love their fresh take on the funk and disco genres, and their candid lyrics. Stereo-Types is a must-listen. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
