Opening stripped-back and emotional, Dream quickly finds a pulsating rhythm that begins to throw off the heaviness of it all. By the time the track has reached its first chorus, we are encouraged to move cathartically. Throughout, Gill’s vocals stay expressive and compelling, telling a story of the space between reality and dreams, inspired by real experience of lucid dreaming.
“I wrote Dream after experiencing a string of lucid dreams that felt more vivid than waking life,” she explains. “It’s a track about being stuck in the middle— where fear and fantasy meet.”
The single was self-produced (with co-production by Thomas Paul Jones of Tigerblind) by the Liverpool-based singer-songwriter and shows us a different side to her sound compared to August 2024’s Mess Around. It’s more evidence of why she’s getting the attention that she is. Gill’s the very definition of a rising star. If you like Bat For Lashes, Paloma Faith and RAYE, then give her music a go.
Dream is out now and you can give it a listen below.
