A chamber folk track that explores the dark side of reflecting light, The Light You Reflect is the new track from E.G. Phillips.

“If even goddesses and fae folk react harshly to being seen in their most vulnerable states and truest forms, what hope do we mere mortals have?” asks Phillips.
The Light You Reflect‘s lyrical story is image-laden and mythical. It’s wistfully delivered by Phillips’ soft and expressive vocals while an instrumental pairs acoustic guitar with strings to create an atmosphere that’s wonderfully dreamy. The track brings to mind early Leonard Cohen until it gets lively and folksy at its halfway point. There it gets warm and optimistic.
Based in San Francisco, USA, Phillips has appeared once before on our blog. His traditional jazz single, Brave Heart, Luna! appeared in Jane’s All Jazzed Up round up in April 2022. His latest shows a distinctly different side to this sound, demonstrating his versatility as an artist. As well as the aforementioned Cohen, his style has drawn comparisons with Nick Cave and Tom Waits.
The Light You Reflect was produced and arranged by two-time Grammy winner Nahuel Bronzini, and will feature on Phillips’ EP Tricks of the Light. The single is out now and you can give it a listen below.
