Kat Koan calls her new EP, The Night Circus, a “soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist” and it certainly has a touch of the cinematic about it.

The Night Circus is beautifully alternative, feeling at once old school and edgy and modern. Characterful vocals deliver lyrics that get our pulses racing while quirky instrumentals seem to sit timelessly between classic noir, ’90s indie rock and contemporary pop.
We get vaudevillian moments like Cocoon alongside quiet and sultry moments like Dream Girl. BOOM! is a raucous, percussive highlight at the heart of the EP while Loose Woman also proves memorable thanks to its defiant lyrics and bass groove.
Koan says creating the EP is the most fun she’s had on a creative level so far and that shines through across each of its tracks. To record it, she teamed up with producer Cameron James Liang and the pair got to work crafting it at the Famous Gold Watch Studios in Berlin, Germany, the city in which Koan is based.
The Night Circus is a wonderfully escapist listen that also strikes at the heart of many modern matters. It’s simply a joy. The EP is out now, available to buy on Bandcamp. You can give it a listen below.
