Alan Dreezer talks love with new single, Apart

Apart is the fifth release from Alan Dreezer‘s upcoming album, NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES, and we thought we’d have a chat with him about it.

By Graeme Smith

“I had originally written some of the lyrics to Apart after watching the movie A Marraige Story five years or so ago but got kind of stuck at that time on what the overall message of the song would be so I shelved them,” Dreezer explains. “Then a couple of years later I went back to them with the idea: what if the song was about a relationship ending but both parties were wishing the other well, and that helped me finish the lyrics in a few hours.”

It’s certainly a track that has a natural feel about it with lyrics that speak right from the heart. Apart is a pleading, emotive number that opens low and intimate before building into a rapturous arrangement that hits hard. It all feels confessional and relatable, delivered delicately by Dreezer. As a jazzy groove comes in, the picture is complete and from there we get cinematic rises and falls eventually arriving at an affirming finish.

“A few months ago, I was listening to a song by RY X called YaYaYa which had a really unique tempo,” Dreezer goes on. “I sang the melody over that tempo and it just fell into place. I took that version to my producer Elliot Richardson and we were able to finally finished it. So, the song has really been on a journey!”

They say good things come to those who wait and that’s certainly the case with Dreezer’s latest. He’s an artist who has featured before on our pages, going back to 2023. I myself have even run the rule over his previous release, the George Michael-inspired (Love Didn’t Hurt Me) IT WAS YOU.

Apart features on Dreezer’s upcoming third album, NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES, yet he’s quick to point out that it’s a departure from what else the album offers.

“I really want the listener to feel real light and shade with this album,” he explains. “It’s also kind of me proving to myself that I can do more than just write catchy pop songs, so I’ve taken an artistic risk, I suppose. Only time will tell if I’ve made the right decision.”

It feels the right decision for me, and the track makes me excited to hear the rest of the album. But, what about its title?

NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES has been a favourite quote of mine for years and we have used it to framework the whole of this project,” Dreezer says. “By quoting it at the beginning of every studio session, it has given us licence to try things we had never tried before and has also pushed us out of our comfort zones to places sonically we never thought we would go to. It has also helped us to try to reach new heights but at the same time making sure we weren’t taking ourselves too seriously and trying to have a little more fun with our process this time around.”

The album is set for release in the first half of 2026 after which Dreezer is hoping to put together some band shows. He will also be busy with the charity he promotes, The Love Button Global Movement. As he explains, Love Button “is a nonprofit organization created to get people excited about transforming the world with their love and inspire them to do so through community-based philanthropy, volunteerism, and individual acts of kindness toward family, friends, and especially perfect strangers. Each loving interaction, no matter how small, carries the potential of changing the planet by elevating the way we think about ourselves and each other.”

I don’t know many artists more deserving of attention than Alan Dreezer. If you haven’t heard his music before, Apart is a great place to start. The single is out now and you can give it a listen below.
