Discovery: Walk The Whale stand out with debut album

Walk The Whale grab our attention with their self-titled debut album.

By Graeme Smith

Walk The Whale is an album that stands out from the crowd thanks to its theatrical vocals paired with groovy and moody jazz rock. Each new track unveils a pleasant surprise, and feel distinct in its own right.

Aquarium Love is a beautifully dreamy moment that takes you under the waves while Pacified is a jangly rock moment that trades soft verses for hard-edged interludes before getting big in the chorus. Addiction is a waltzing, classic rock moment with some memorable, confessional lyrics. Abandon You Mind is beautifully ethereal and nicely punctuated by a sublime piano solo. It’s Sting-esque.

That’s just to name a few. All of the album’s ten tracks have a unique point of view and narrative, blending classic influences with the Avant Garde. As listener, by the time you reach its conclusion, you’ve been on a journey. Ghost has a lingering finish before Overboard provides the final touches with a lively, hard rock style.

Walk The Whale is the project of long-time friends Logan and Parker who met while studying at Florida State University. Both are trained cellists and have mastered other instruments to create their brand of alternative rock.

“It’s a cathartic experience, taking this training and applying it to whatever new idea comes to mind,” they say of their process. “We’re connecting with people through music in a way we never have before. It feels like coming home.”

Their debut album, Walk The Whale, is out now, available to buy as a digital album on Bandcamp. You can give it a listen below.
