An artist who is new to the scene, Yema has caught our attention through her standout debut EP, I Feel It Too.

I Feel It Too is five tracks of dreamy and emotional indie pop. It opens lush with Treading where Yema’s vocals prove softly compelling, floating over an inviting and bittersweet instrumental. The lyrics pluck the heartstrings, infused with a sense of melancholia.

Synchronicity brightens things a little without losing any of the emotional impact. It’s an early highlight. 4 Hearts has a head-swaying rhythm and sense of timelessness. Sheets shows a more delicate side of Yema’s sound before You Are An Angel brings things home with a composition that opens slow and stripped-back before growing in stature to a layered finish.

Yema is the performing name of Katrina Sosa, a musician, songwriter and music educator from Edmonton, Canada. She has been performing as Yema since 2020, combining a classical and jazz background with indie and alternative pop.

Her debut EP does a lot with a little, and the personal nature of its story makes for an engaging listen. Yema delves deep with this short collection, showing us plenty of who she is as an artist and person.
