Discovery: Sheffield’s Burning Bouquet release cathartic new single

Written as a message to frontwoman Rachael’s younger self, The Cycle is the striking new single from Sheffield’s Burning Bouquet.

By Graeme Smith

The Cycle is gentle, melancholic alternative rock with post-rock undertones and pop overtones, creating a heady mix in the instrumental. Soulful vocals lead the charge in the verse, becoming pleading during a powerful chorus. Lyrics are full of self-doubt and regret, finding catharsis where they can. As the track reaches its bridge, we get a slow-building and vulnerable moment that beautifully sets up its crescendo.

“This song is a promise to my younger self to choose healing, and that there is peace on the other side of her pain,” says Rachael. “The lyrics are words that she desperately needed to hear and I hope they can bring comfort to those going through similar struggles.”

She’s joined on the track by bandmate and husband Jamie, with drummer Archie helping them on production.

Obviously, I love it when I find a new local act to get into and Burning Bouquet certainly fit the bill. The Cycle is their sixth release in a career that’s new and full of promise. I can’t wait to see where they take it.

The single is out now and you can give it a listen below.
