Discovery: BobbyBullRun makes a statement with new album

An “entrepreneurs soundtrack,” Bank Statements is the upcoming album from BobbyBullRun.

Rap and hip-hop is a genre I’m increasingly getting into. While there are a lot of imitators in the game, I am more and more frequently finding artists with a unique point of view and plenty to say. BobbyBullRun definitely makes that list.

His new album, Bank Statements, is thirteen ruminations on finance, delivered with some typically braggadocious hip-hop. What elevates it from the crowd is its clever wordplay, flipping familiar tropes. They’re delivered with a laidback and charismatic style by BobbyBullRun. It’s typified by the groovy 401k. “F**k a 401k, I make 400 in one day,” he spits.

We get moody moments like Bankster, Difference and Leverage and soft nostalgia in tracks like Cash Flow and Class. All along, the attitude never lets up and BobbyBullRun hits pop reference after pop reference.

Expedite is an encouraging moment with electronic, ’80s-esque overtones. Mix It Monero is particularly pacy and fiery moment. Streams is a free-flowing highlight.

Organising his tales around the extended metaphor of the cash game is a bold move which pays off. It makes the collection feel coherent and gives it a depth that meditates on the true nature of our modern, Capitalist world. It’s more than an advert for the hustle; it’s a reflection of what it means to be constantly chasing money.

Bank Statements is set for release 23 August 2025.
