A song about the gap between who we would like to be and who we are, Super is the new single from Jonni Slater.

Opening with a stripped-back piano led arrangement, we get plenty of space for Super‘s poetic lyrics. They speak of superpowers tempered by a certain moral relativism. They’re soulfully delivered by Slater who also puts in a star turn in the music video. There’s a certain classicality about it that fans of Sting would appreciate.

“In the movie scene playing in my head, I’m confident, clever, heroic,” confesses Jonni. “In the real world, I forget my point halfway through a sentence and knock over someone’s whisky.”

Slater has previously featured on our blog through a collaboration with Dora Lachaise in 2023, an EP called Weather Balloons. It’s great to have him and his unique sound back on the blog.
