Alex Cherney & The Brothers Nylon escort us to a Pool Party

Sure we’ve all heard of party music, but what if a record could feel like a real party? That was the effect Alex Cherney & The Brothers Nylon were trying to achieve with their new album, Pool Party.

By Graeme Smith

Its title track is a nu-disco number with plenty of groove. Pool Party will instantly find a home on your summer soundtrack. The rhythm is insatiably funky in the verse and will have you moving uncontrollably in the chorus. Soulful vocals give way to a rapped second verse (courtesy of Lenny McFly), giving us more energy and life. With all that’s going on in the world, sometimes we just need to kick back and dance. This track is here to help you do that in abundance, right to its final note.

The album, Pool Party, promises 21 tracks of disco experimentation, with a narrative that follows the arc of a summer party. For the album, Alex Cherney teamed up with Nick and Mike Rufolo aka The Brothers Nylon.

“We had a conversation, and disco felt like a fun direction that all three of us wanted to try,” Cherney says. “The lush productions, groove-heavy music, and an analogue/digital hybrid approach reminiscent of true disco recordings of the ’80s.

“I had the idea to make it a concept album – following a fictional pool party from the start of the party to finish – and having it genuinely feel like a party with a mixed bag of vocals on the album, seamlessly flowing like a DJ set. Pop, soul, rap, foreign language, Pool Party has a little vocal for everyone and remains grounded in a continuous disco groove, though varied in composition.

“This isn’t just disco revival. It’s a modern, genre-fusing celebration with heart, grit, and groove.”
