PØRTERS put themselves on the musical map with debut EP

Hailing from Newcastle, PØRTERS are a band who first appeared on our blog in May 2025. Now, they’re back with their debut EP, Motion Without Direction.

By Graeme Smith

From the moody opening of Where are we going?, Motion Without Direction is a collection that draws you in. Harmonic vocals add an instant sense of emotion and things feel Fleetwood Mac-esque as the EP opener unfolds. There are big guitar riffs, folksy grooves and plenty of soul.

The Thrill, a track that has featured on our pages before, ups the tempo and the swagger during an early highlight. The Devil I Know injects a touch of the blues to proceedings during a pleading, metaphor-rich moment. It finds a frenetic finish. Things end powerfully with the hard, swinging rock of Recover.

Lyrically, the EP explores themes of identity, impulse, and introspection, giving us plenty of relatable detail to hold onto as listener. I was gripped.

Led by the vocals of Maria Winter, PØRTERS consist of Kieran Taylor on guitar and vocals, James Hughes on bass and vocals, Nick Gladdish on keys and vocals, and Tom Furniss on drums. We’re quickly becoming fans of theirs, and this EP really puts them on the musical map.

Motion Without Direction is out now and you can give it a listen below.
