Addressing a toxic relationship through a show of strength, You’ll Never See Me Cry is the latest single from York Calling favourite, ettie.
By Graeme Smith
A slow and stirring first verse puts ettie’s passionate vocals to the fore. There’s plenty of emotion in the defiant lyrics, particularly during a cathartic chorus where things get beautifully dramatic. All the while a pop rock undercurrent keeps things moving along, mixing classic influences with modern sensibilities.
“[You’ll Never See Me Cry is] a song about not wanting to let go of something that has already gone,” says ettie. “Sometimes we have relationships where the idea of letting your walls down would make the whole house crumble. All that’s left in the end is your pride and broken pieces.”
Inspired by early Avril Lavigne, Pale Waves, Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams, ettie has been featuring on our pages since 2022. Her latest work is without a doubt her most impressive yet. The London-based artist is going places, for sure.
You’ll Never See Me Cry is out now and you can give it a listen below.
