Discovery: Zekiizo’s fresh take on love and lust feels like nothing else

For her new track, Zekiizo has put aside the polish to tell a raw and honest tale of transitioning from old love to new. It’s called Kiss, and the track has got her music on our radar.

By Graeme Smith

Kiss opens understatedly with moody layers and a quirky electronic melody. The track quickly explodes into an emotive soundscape in which Zekiizo’s vocals star. They’re part-whispered, part-sung, proving mesmerising, especially during a rhythmic, repeating chorus.

The track’s lyrics gave me goosebumps. As things progress, layers pour over one another in a highly interesting way. You won’t hear pop like this from anyone else.

With the track, Zekiizo wanted to explore how she feels in a new relationship compared to an older one and how the transition to a new person after an ended relationship often feels unfair for both parties, yet that unfairness gets tempered by the lust and intimacy that’s also felt.

It’s a subject with depth and the New York City via Boston, USA-based artist tells it through a fresh and interesting composition. I was hooked, and can’t wait to hear more of what Zekiizo has to offer.

You can find out more about her by following her on Spotify, Instagram, and TikTok.
