With her latest EP, Slow Down, Genovieve wants us to get back to nature.

The EP opens with National Park and get an immediate sense of intimacy contrasted by the idea of a large natural space. It’s a combination that transports you as you imagine its story unfolding before your eyes. Genovieve enhances the experience with understated and emotive vocals, and an instrumental that builds cinematically as the track progresses. It’s a beautiful start.

Sandwiched between the EP opener, and its closing title track are Fool and Next Time. The former is a lively moment, rich with rousing percussion, mournful strings, and a sense of uncertainty in the lyrics. The latter gives us gently plucked acoustic guitar and poetic imagery. Genovieve’s vocals become at their most pleading there.

Title track Slow Down proves a final highlight. It’s appropriately unhurried, waltzing languidly as licks of classical strings support Genovieve’s soulful delivery. It takes us by the hand on a journey of exploration. It’s stunning.

The Slow Down EP is four tales that are the perfect accompaniment to a mindful stroll. Genovieve has a folksy style and a strong sense of perspective. She tells an interesting story in each of the EP’s tracks, bringing them together with a wider theme of nature, connectedness and human emotion.
