A music producer, guitarist, bassist, singer and songwriter, Tristan Turdean is new to our blog through his new EP, 5 SONGS TO GET OVER YOU.
By Graeme Smith
The EP is a concept record, exploring the five stages of grief – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance – in the context of heartbreak. Each track represents a different stage. The whole EP is enhanced by a short film that brings together the five tracks and expands their narrative with a visual element. It’s well worth a watch.
Musically, the record opens with the cantering rhythm and emotive groove of Remind Me When You Return. Tristan’s vocals are soft and compelling during a simmering first verse before bringing some rock edginess. There’s more than a hint of Panic! At The Disco about it, especially during the bombastic chorus.
Egirl is rich with a bittersweet hedonism and hyperpop energy. Tell me that you love me too blends pop punk and synth-led electronica innovatively for a bright, mid-EP highlight. Miss you slows things down for a forlorn ballad before kicking the tempo back up for some cathartic rock.
Leave You in the Past, the EP’s lead single, strikes a gentle and consolidatory tone, bouncing along with some catchy soft pop and bringing to a close the emotional journey.
