A gang of teenage, Warrington-based best mates, Freight are new to our blog through their latest single, The Only Thing I Know.
By Graeme Smith
A bright and breezy indie pop rock track with a certain bittersweetness about it, The Only Thing I Know has enough nuance to capture the attention. Charming vocals lead the charge in the verse, bringing with them a certain romanticism. The chorus sticks with you and is clearly a crowd-pleaser.
“The Only Thing I Know is my favourite song to play live as I teach the crowd the words of the chorus and get them to sing along which is always amazing to see and hear,” says Freight frontman Luka Gunes. “It’s a song we love to play live and has a real sing-along feel to it.
“[It’s] about the youthful awkwardness of approaching young love and having the courage to make the first move and make your intentions known. The song is based around a stereotypical ‘lads night’ and not having the courage to go and talk to her.
“I’d just watched the film Superbad at the time so really wanted to try and capture some of that awkwardness in a song, and I think it’s subconsciously turned out to be a bit of a love song too.”
The track is the second release from Freight’s debut EP, Kaleidoscope, which is set for release 8 October 2025. It’s out now, and you can listen to it below.
