The Muster Point Project’s latest single is a reflective rock classic

Kevin Franco’s The Muster Point Project is one to which I keep coming back. They’ve been consistently releasing new singles since we started covering them last year, and each has been a delight.

Franco writes music about the light and darker sides of life, capturing the subtle emotion of it all with astute lyrics told against a backdrop of country-infused rock. His latest, You Lose and You Gain, is a breakup song, but not the soppy ballad you might expect.

“Wisdom comes not just through an experience but from what you learn from the experience, this song articulates this very well.” says Franco.

The story is told against a punchy classic rock arrangement that combines the bouncy and the laidback. I found the vocals really shone, cutting through it all with ease and hitting all the right emotional notes.

“When the original song came out, something connected with me instantly – the slide guitar, bass lines, the melody, the soft vocal delivery and the message of the lyrics made for a very powerful and unforgettable song,” Franco adds.

Franco plays bass, guitars, mandolin, percussion, and sings on the track. He’s joined by drummer Marcelo Effori.
