It’s been a few years since we’ve featured the music of Brisbane, Australia’s Noralyn and I’m delighted to welcome her back with her fully self-made single, Summerland.
By Graeme Smith
Crafted in her home studio, Summerland invites us to a world of hope and joy in its titular land. The place is used as a metaphor for how loved ones can support us through despondency.
Expectedly, the music is light and airy, immediately stirring a sense of brightness and safety. Noralyn’s vocals are beautifully crystalline when they come in, joining an arrangement that blends chamber pop with cinematic elements and singer-songwriter sensibilities.
As the track progresses, its vibrancy grows, becoming particularly enchanting and heart-warming in its chorus. A euphoric, string-laden finish rounds off its central message, leaving us in a reassuring glow.
Noralyn first featured on our pages in 2021 with her album Slow Thinker and it left such a strong impression on me that she featured in our end of year round-up. I wouldn’t be surprised if Summerland does the same for this year after this reintroduction.
If you want to keep up to date with all she’s doing, you can by heading to her website, and following her on Facebook, Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, YouTube, and Instagram.
Summerland is out now, and you can listen to it below.
