Many artists reference philosophy in their music but few live and breathe it as much as Art Schop does in his new album, Wittgenstein & the Transcendental.
By Graeme Smith
There’s an offbeat nature to his sound which makes it instantly stand out. In his new album, he makes that quirkiness endearing and approachable. The philosophy becomes rich, compelling storytelling as he reframes Ludwig Wittgenstein as a biographical protagonist, not shying away from the man’s many contradictions.
New York, USA-based Art Schop’s real name is Martin Walker. As well as making music, Walker has written and published fiction as well as a book of original philosophy that “connects the nature of material existence to the meaning of life.”
Wittgenstein & the Transcendental is out now, and you can listen to it below.
