Essex punk duo The Meffs bring their relentless live show to York on Thursday 29 October, supporting Levellers at York Barbican.

It’s a fitting pairing: both bands share a reputation for turning political frustration into something you can shout along to, and The Meffs arrive off the back of one of their busiest years yet.

The show comes just weeks after the release of the duo’s second album Business, out 11 September via FLG and produced by SiKth’s Dan Weller. It’s their most politically pointed record to date, tackling everything from the music industry’s own dysfunction on the title track to broader social commentary on “Disorder (Wake Up)”. Recent single “God Complex”, featuring Ingo from German punk band Donots, marks the band’s biggest genre-crossover moment so far, built around a riff big enough to match its theme of the gap between public image and private reality.

Lily Hopkins and Lewis Copsey have spent the past year proving punk doesn’t need a full line-up to hit hard, playing Glastonbury, Download and 2000trees, selling out headline shows across the UK and Europe, and supporting the Sex Pistols and The Undertones along the way. Long-time advocates for grassroots venues as Music Venue Trust patrons, the pair have built their reputation the hard way — through relentless touring and a live show that consistently punches above its size.

For York audiences, this is a chance to catch a band on the rise before the room they’re playing gets any bigger.
