Discovery: Fontstheduo

Fontstheduo are a brother and sister acoustic act originally from Venezuela and now based in Canada. Their new track Borderlines tells the story of their father returning home to see their grandmother before her passing.

I was drawn in by the story of Borderlines. The father’s return journey home was taken on foot, crossing the land border between Columbia and Venezuela. It’s told from the perspective of the siblings, worried and powerless while waiting news.

To begin with there is a powerful simplicity to the musical structure. The main accompaniment is from a ukulele and the lines are sung in harmony. The complexity builds, however, into a emotive crescendo.

Fontstheduo have a knack for personal storytelling and an ear for what makes great music. I hope you agree. Check out Borderlines below.
