Serena is a London-based electronic pop artist who has caught my attention with her new track Ophelia.
By Graeme Smith
Ophelia borrows the name of a 2017 hurricane to tell a story of struggling with mental health. The track is darkly minimalist with vocals used heavily to add texture and atmosphere. Serena is heavily influenced by Bjork in her music and it shows in Ophelia. The track shares a sense of accessible experimentation that you can heard Bjork’s ’90s output.
Serena grew up in Italy before moving to London. She uses London’s vibrant multiculturalism to inspire her sound. I’m a big fan of her music’s sense of space and its feeling of pushing the boundaries. Check out Ophelia below. You can hear more boundary-pushing music on our Decomposition playlist on Spotify.
