Based in Beijing, China, Maie is a virtual artist who takes pride in being an outsider. Her inventive new track and video Kosmo caught my attention.

Virtual artists are a concept growing in popularity in music, from pop icons to alterative acts like Gorillaz. Maie sits more in the space of the former. Her track has a lot of pop sensibilities about it, with big electronic beats and smooth and emotive vocals. There’s a fresh and unique feel to Maie’s sound though. And the poetry of her lyrics blend perfectly with the animated visuals of the accompanying video.

Maie recently debuted with her single Like You, to critical acclaim. With this follow up, she shows that her being might be virtual but her talent is certainly real. You can check out the video for Kosmo below.
