Emmrose is a New York, USA-based indie pop singer songwriter. I only discovered her for the blog last week, but she’s already back with another track. Speaking of the particularly kind of loneliness that comes from seeing happy people around you, it’s called The Gallows.

Given the subject matter, The Gallows is suitably melancholic. Opening with echoing footsteps and a tale of a saddening encounter with an ex-boyfriend, it’s the kind of track that will break your heart from the start. As it progresses though, a full acoustic-electronic arrangement comes in, lightening the mood and shrugging off the gloom. It’s a beautifully realised story.
Emmrose is eighteen years old and studying at college in NYC. She’s been writing and releasing music since the age of fourteen and it feels like there’s a lot more to come from her. I can’t wait to hear it.
