Killsy, the stage name of Miami, USA-based experimental pop singer songwriter Rocky Rodriguez, has featured on this blog before. Last summer, my ear was caught by his wonderfully ambient track Bloom. Now he’s back with a new one. It’s called Sweet Dru.

Sweet Dru questions life and its rules. There is a rejection of adulthood, a desire to return to the simplicity and innocence of youth. Rocky’s lyrical approach makes it all feel very relatable, and I found myself feeling right alongside him. The story is delivered against a backdrop of piano and distorted, echoing vocals. It’s all so incredibly immersive.
It’s a great time to be rediscovering Killsy’s music. His debut EP Oro is on the horizon and I can’t wait to hear it.
