New Music: Mia Mormino – Joan of Arc

We’ve covered Los Angeles, USA-based alternative pop artist Mia Mormino a few times on the blog now. She never fails to impress with her combination of catchy tunes and thoughtful lyrics. Her latest is no exception. It’s called Joan of Arc.

Mia has poured a lot into this track, and its meanings are numerous and layered, but perhaps the cultural touch point of most relevance to it now, as she explains, is the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a woman’s right to safe abortion. Musically, it’s a solemn track, with heavy piano, rumbling bass notes and an explosive chorus that stirs a sense of rebellion.

Joan of Arc is just what I’ve come to expect from an artist who puts so much of herself into her music. You can give it a listen below.
